Wework expands its empire

Wework have set the wheels in motion for another three London Locations in deals which will see their London portfolio rise to approximately 1m sq ft. After formally launching their largest ever site at Moor Place, Wework have upped the commercial property game piling the pressure onto their competitors.

The expansions will further supplement Wework’s East London dominance, adding sites to City Road and Waterhouse Square. They will also make their first dive into the Docklands market, taking on the top three floors of 7 Westferry Circus. And Wework’s expansion has no plans to stop with London. Owners have Paris, Dublin and a whole host of other European cities in their crosshairs.

Since opening its first London workspace in October 2014, Wework has revolutionised the way modern businesses view the conventional office; forcing both architects and employers to react to new trends driven by the demand for creative spaces and the increased emphasis on collaboration.

One of the defining factors to Wework’s success has been its equal popularity with solo-entrepreneurs, small start-ups and established organisations. A measurement of this success is global market dominator Regus’s latest range of offices Spaces; an attempt to replicate Wework’s formula.

There is also talk of introducing the co-living, micro-flat experiment WeLive to some of London’s suburbs. With the aim of housing ‘the workforce of the future’, WeLive’s secretive project should be complete in the US by 2016 with plans to move it to Europe by the end of that year.
